I attended Fall in Love New England this past weekend. It’s a romance conventions for authors and readers. The first day was for VIP Readers and Authors. The day was filled with various breakout sessions, some were fun games that were filled with laughter, ie Name that leading man.
I attended sessions directly related to writing, publishing and viewpoints of other authors who were in attendance. Sitting in these sessions showed me all of us romance authors struggle with the same roadblocks to making your work “seen”.
One session was called Yes, Yes, Yes, it was a panel on writing a sexy, spicy scene in your romance novel. Interesting how many of us had the same scenarios and words we would not write!
That evening was an incredible cocktail hour, very classy. I got to meet authors of different romance genres and VIP readers. I made friends with fellow authors talking about how we all have the same desire to be recognized as the next big romance novel. We played games and I feel I really made some great connections.
Saturday and Sunday were book signing events. Once again connections with other authors were made and we each looked at each other’s work, shared our social media. As romance authors we all are cheering for each other, buying each other’s books.
In talking to other authors we shared some of our “wins”, for me it was the amount of Podcasts I do. I shared that valuable information with many. I also received valuable tricks from other authors.
The organization of the event run by Suzanne Eglington and her staff was top notch. The assistance and caring for the attendees was appreciated. This is an event that I would advise any romance author to try to attend.
I will be back next year, hopefully on a few panels. I can’t wait to Fall in Love in New England again.
